Elgon Centre for Education (ECE) is a Not-for-Profit Organization in Kenya Registration Certificate No.OP.218/051/18-342/11468. It was founded by enthusiastic and passionate individuals with the overall objective of promoting Education in rural, marginalized areas, fostering prosperity and development through access to education, reproductive health and mitigating the effects of alcohol and other substance abuse in the society. The organization covers 5 Counties including Busia, Bungoma, Trans-Nzoia, West Pokot and Turkana.
It was created because of the need to fill a gap in academic and life skills mentorship programs focusing on children’s behavioral change, massive school dropouts, poverty, teenage pregnancy and need for sexual education. These life skills are all necessary in helping kids to remain in schools and realize their potential. The members believed that in order to achieve Kenya’s Vision 2030, Sustainable Development Goals including Access to Quality Education; academic mentorship, support and personal development and life skills are important. The target group includes the children in Primary and Secondary schools and beyond hence reducing cases of dropouts. This encourages positive growth and gives the young people the hope of achieving their dreams and destiny.
